Bayern Munich set to snub signing João Cancelo on a permanent deal

According to the Daily Mail, Bayern Munich are set to snub signing on loan Manchester City full-back João Cancelo on a permanent deal.

The Portuguese international signed for Julian Nagelsmann’s side on a six-month loan deal after falling out of favour at Manchester City.

The 28-year-old started on the bench for Bayern Munich last night as they advanced through to the last eight of the Champions League after defeating Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 (3-0 on aggregate).

Cancelo’s £62m clause is not expected to be triggered by Bayern however Chelsea and Real Madrid are reportedly the two most likely options for the full-back if he does leave City this summer.

Bayern director Hasan Salihamidžić on Cancelo:

“João will still be a very important player for us. He hasn’t been playing, training the way he had imagined lately. We’re communicating well with him.

“He’s an outstanding player who’ll be important.”

At the time of his departure on deadline day, City boss Pep Guardiola said:

“He left because he always wants to play all the games.

“I wish him to do it in Germany for the next four months and then I don’t know what will happen next season.”
