Aston Villa agree deal to sign Pau Torres from Villarreal

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign Pau Torres from Villarreal.

The agreement comes soon after talks were said to be advancing between the two sides and the Villans are now set to pay ‘way less’ than the 26-year-olds release clause.

Furthermore, a contract has now been agreed between the player and the club, with a medical also being scheduled.

Unai Emery was said to be a key driver behind the move and wanted the Spanish international to join as soon as this week, having previously worked with the defender during his time at the Yellow Submarine from 2020 until 2022, where they won the 2020/21 Europa League together.

Playing as a leftsided centre-back in a back four, Torres made 39 appearances for the Spanish side in all competitions last season, scoring one goal, and keeping 13 clean sheets- impressing top European clubs such as Bayern Munich with his excellent passing range and composure in possesion.

The deal will be the first signing under Villa’s new sporting director Monchi and will be a significant addition to the Midlands side and their Spanish manager for next season, where they will look to build on their seventh place Premier League finish and become the second successive English club to win the UEFA Conference League.
