Fabrizio Romano has reported that Aston Villa are advancing in talks to sign Pau Torres from Villarreal. The deal is not completed yet, but it is progressing to key stages between the two clubs.
Emery who previously worked with Torres at Villarreal is the driving force behind the deal, as he wants to work with the defender again. The Villa manager is keen to get the transfer completed this week.
The 26-year-old made 39 appearances for the Spanish side in all competitions last season, scoring one goal, and keeping 13 clean sheets. Transfermarkt value Torres at €45.00m.
Villarreal finished 5th in La Liga, with 64 points this season, bettering their 7th placed finish last season on 59 points. They also made it to the UEFA Europa Conference League Round of 16, losing 2-1 on aggregate to Anderlecht.
Aston Villa have already acquired Youri Tielemans from Leicester on a free transfer, as his contract expired this summer, and Pau Torres could potentially be the second signing for Villa this window.
