Aleksandar Mitrović banned for eight games

Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrović has been banned for eight games for his push on referee Chris Kavanagh during Fulham’s FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Manchester United last month.

The Football Association believed a standard three-match suspension was insufficient for Mitrović’s actions on March 19.

Head coach Marco Silva also received a red card during the fixture and subsequently served a one-game touchline ban.

The Cottagers will now be without their top scorer for the majority of the remaining fixtures with Carlos Vinícius expected to continue up front.

Vinícius has scored two league goals this season whilst providing one assist in 19 appearances, although the Brazilian has only started six of those.

Fulham host relegation-threatened West Ham United this Saturday at Craven Cottage before travelling to Merseyside the following week to face Everton.

Silva’s side have suffered four consecutive defeats in all competitions despite leading in two of those games.
