AC Milan set to sign Ruben Loftus-Cheek from Chelsea

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, AC Milan are set to sign Ruben Loftus-Cheek from Chelsea.

The Rossoneri will pay the London club a £15m fee plus, potential add-ons, for the midfielder, who has agreed personal terms with the side and is expected to sign onto four-year contract.

The move will be the 10-Time capped England international’s first venture outside of his home nation and his first permanent move away from Stamford bridge, having been at the club since 2004 when he joined their academy.

Since making his debut in 2014, the 27-year-old has struggled to cement himself as a starter at The Blues, suffering from mutliple injuries throughout his career- most notably in 2019, where a ruptured achilles tendon kept him out for 280 days and 38 matches ,according to Transfemarkt.

Despite this, the Cobham academy graduate has impressed in loan spells to Crystal Palace and Fulham in the 2017/18 and 2020/21 seasons respectively- where his 21 starts in each season were the joint most of his Premier League career.

With a contract set to expire at his boyhood club next summer, Loftus Cheek’s move will most likely see him replace Newcastle-bound Sandro Tonali at the San Siro, as he joins former teammate Fikayo Tomori in Stefano Pioli’s side, who has had a successful time in Italy since moving from Chelsea for just over €30m in July 2021- winning the Serie A title in his first full season with Milan, having previously spent six months on loan there the season prior.

The departure will be one of many expected to occur at Mauricio Pochettino’s new side this summer, as they are set to recieve over £100m in player sales through a significant squad clearout.

That fee does not include the possible sale of Mason Mount, who, with his contract expiring in June 2024, has already been subject to multiple £50m plus bids from Manchester United, all of which have been rejected by Chelsea.
