34% drop in TV ratings in Germany for World Cup curtain raiser

German TV figures from yesterday’s 2022 World Cup curtain raiser demonstrate that the country’s population may actively be boycotting the tournament in Qatar on ZDF.

Viewing figures were down 34% yesterday in comparison with the opening match of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

A total of 6.21 million people watched Qatar lose to Ecuador, in comparison to the 9.48 million people that watched Russian vs Saudi Arabia.

The age category which specifically has turned off from the tournament it would appear is the 14 to 49-year-old group, who dropped their views by 50% in comparison with 2018 tournament.

In Germany, the majority of the country’s ultra groups have called their followers to boycott the tournament, with many bars and public places affirming that they won’t show matches.
